Feature improvements in Windows 7 RC – Kills off QuickTime on PCs
This post talks about the improvements that will be in Windows 7 Release Candidate as a result of feedback from the beta test. There’re many under the hood changes, bug fixes, compatibility fixes, performance improvements, and improvements. Here are few highlights:
- Aero Peek triggered from Windows Flip (ALT+TAB)
- Windows Logo + <#> keyboard shortcut
- Custom theme improvements
- A slew of changes to the taskbar and jump lists, including some visual tweaks that “squeeze in 24-39% more icons before the taskbar scrolls.” If I understand that correctly (no visual is included), it should also get rid of the excessive open space on the taskbar.
- Aero Peek for touch with refined functionality
- Drag/Drop and select items with touch, even inside scrolling pages
- Direct support for playing back .MOV files (like the ones my digital camera records), without requiring me to install QuickTime. Hallelujah.
- User Account Control
- Reduced confusion with drag/drop a folder into the Libraries node in the Explorer navigation pane
- FAT32 support
