Microsoft launching branded retail stores; appoints David Porter

Microsoft is planning to launch a number of new Microsoft-branded retail stores, according to a company press release issued late in the day on February 12. Microsoft announced that David Porter will join the company as corporate vice president of Retail Stores. Windows 7 moving toward July 2009 Release!

PC industry sources in Asia and the U.S. tell that they’ve heard things are on track to launch by this year's holiday shopping season, which has been Microsoft's internal target for some time. Microsoft is also putting the finishing touches on a program to offer Windows Vista buyers a free or low-cost update to Windows 7. That program could kick off as early as July, sources said.

Apple security update for Mac OS X and Java released

Apple has published the Security Update 2009-001, available for Leopard, Leopard Server, Tiger for Intel Macs, Tiger for PowerPC-based Macs, Tiger Server for PowerPC-based Macs and Server Universal. Two Java updates are also available which addresses security and compatibility issues and are compatible with both Intel and PowerPC-based Macs & applies to Mac OS X 10.5.6

Google to intro PGP Signature Verification feature in Gmail
