Am I missing something here? When I put the MAC OS X disc 1 in any windows drive it only shows a blank disc. How can I install the windows boot camp software if I can't read the disk. I tried it in several different computers and it's blank in every one.

The MacBook Pro does not support USB boot for installation of Windows OSes at this time. You should consider removing that option from step 1 of your guide, as it is not currently possible.

dumb question,

but will this work on the original Macbook Pro (Intel Core Duo, not Core 2) which I believe is 32 bit?

... I have successfully installed windows 7, but the video drivers are a bit lacking- ie- I cant use Aero etc.

If you're using default Boot Camp, you may encounter some problems. To over come, just download the latest version from the link. You should be fine.
