HP announced the TouchSmart tx2 - a notebook that it's claiming is the world's first to feature a multi-touch screen. The TouchSmart tx2 takes the multi-touch technology found in HP's TouchSmart desktops, along with its custom HP MediaSmart software, and promises to deliver digital content at the touch of a finger.

The system in the picture, features a 12.1in 1,280x800 screen that'll rotate 180° to convert the system into a multi-touch equipped tablet PC. On the inside, it's an all-AMD affair. HP has provided a choice of AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processors ranging from 2.1GHz to 2.4GHz. Graphics, also by AMD, are provided via a 64MB Radeon HD 3200.

The system can be configured with 3GB to 8GB of DDR2 memory and up to 400GBs of storage in hard-disk drive form. There's a built-in DVD writer, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, a webcam, remote control and a six-cell Lithium Ion battery as standard.

It's available only in the U.S. as of now - with prices starting at $1,149 - and worldwide availability is expected soon.
