Microsoft has been granted a patent on technology that censors audio streams in real-time, possibly signaling an end to the days of being insulted by teenage Halo fans via the company's Xbox Live online gaming service.

The technology processes a real-time or stored audio stream "producing censored speech that has been altered so that undesired words or phrases are either unintelligible or inaudible."
