Nathan Buggia on Live Search blog, recaps his SMX East session, where he answer “which optimization tactics are acceptable by search engines and which ones are not?” In his presentation on Webmaster Guidelines — shares the slides from his talk, and expands on topics such as paid links, cloaking, and website penalties. He shares some detail on how Live Search handles paid links.

In second part of his 3 post series, Nathan shares his presentation on URLs and Domains — “URLs are the foundation of the Internet. However, they can cause some significant problems for search engines due to the number of synonyms that are often automatically created for each piece of content. He advices to always create short, descriptive URLs, and redirect all common synonyms to one chosen form, and reffer an article on canonicalization for more information, that’ill help search engines more efficiently crawl and index your site.
