This post address the question why some groups may not show up in the SBS Console? If you do not use the SBS provided way to create groups, they will not display in the SBS Console > Users and Groups > Groups tab. For groups to display the following two conditions must be true:

  • Active Directory (AD) attribute msSBSCreationState value must be set to Created
  • The group must be a Universal group

The Created AD attribute value is set for any group automatically when you use the Add a new group wizard. However, the only way to modify the AD attribute value for a group after is has been created, is to manually set the value using the Attribute Editor.  To make sure that groups always show in the SBS Console we recommend using only the Add a new group wizard.
