AMD’s graphics division (ATI) introduced the ninth update for its Catalyst driver software. Version 8.9 includes a new display mode, Overdrive support four quad-Crossfire X configurations and works in concert with OpenGL 3 extensions.

According to AMD, Catalyst 8.9 introduces 1080p-50 Hz custom mode support for HDTVs for Radeon 1000-4000 graphics cards.  Also new is OpenGL 3.0 extension support. Ten extensions are supported initially and future Catalyst release will increase that number, AMD said.

Enthusiasts get overclocking access for systems that run four graphics cards. Catalyst 8.9 includes Overdrive support for Quad CrossFireX systems and enables users to overclock the graphics core or memory of each card using manual controls or an “automated auto-tuning utility”.

The software is available for download from AMD’s website.
