Gotuit Media sues Microsoft over Silverlight patent

Video software developer Gotuit Media has sued Microsoft, claiming that its Silverlight multimedia software infringes several of the company's patents.Gotuit Media filed the suit on Wednesday in a federal court in San Francisco, claiming that Silverlight infringes on three Gotuit patents, which cover ways of making videos searchable on the Internet.

Visual Subst: Create symbolic link to your folders

Visual Subst is a free small tool that allows you to associate the most accessed directories with virtual drives. It uses the same API similar to the console 'subst' utility, but makes it easier to create and remove virtual drives in a GUI way. A virtual drive is just a symbolic link in the Local MS-DOS Device namespace. It is just one more Windows feature added for backward compatibility with old programs.

AMD Radeon HD 4870 X2 by end of July

Following the recent launch of the ATI Radeon HD 4850 and 4870 GPUs, AMD plans to introduce the high-end dual-GPU HD 4870 X2 by the end of July, according to sources at graphics card vendors. Evaluation samples are schedule to be available in mid-July, and AMD will begin shipping reference design boards with 2GB GDDR5 memory at the end of the month, the sources detailed.

Windows Home Server: Addin MSS Fan Control

MediaSmartServer.net’s Alex Kuretz. has written an add-in for HP MediaSmart Server called “MSS Fan Control,” that allows the user to easily control the speed of the upper and lower exhaust fans of the MediaSmart Server. It also allows the user to configure the speed and temperature thresholds that determine how the fan speed should increase as the CPU temperature rises.
