Jake Brumby of the European Ajax development shop Magic Toolbox has released three JavaScript and Flash tools: “Magic Zoom, Magic Magnify, and Magic Thumb”. To ensure the smallest possible script, they built it without using an existing JS library:

One other lesson was that for the best results, you need to code from scratch. We did an initial trial using MooTools and we achieved the effect we wanted but the source code was well over 100kb which we deemed too high. It was useful as a proof of concept, but the final version of the tool was coded entirely from scratch.

  • Magic Zoom: Priced at £25 ($49 / €32) is a JavaScript zoom tool, which enlarge an image, when users move their mouse over the image to see every detail of your product!
  • Magic Thumb: Priced at £20 ($39 / €25) is a neat way of enlarging thumbail images using a JavaScript effect similar to a lightbox.
  • Magic Magnify: Priced at £15 ($29 / €19) is an elegant way to zoom into your images with a magnifying-glass. The user does not need to click anything - they just move their mouse over the photo to see every detail in your product.
