A Microsoft Business Process Alliance (BPA) partner has updated its flagship BPM solution to bind process activity to Microsoft Office client applications and to SharePoint Server.

Yesterday, Metastorm unveiled version 7.6 of its Metastorm BPM Suite. The suite extends process activity to Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word 2007—effectively making these Office applications into interfaces for process collaboration, participation and reporting.

It also supports the Office SharePoint Server 2007 portal interfaces and has a new “Notify” gadget for the Windows Vista operating system, which alerts users when an item requires their attention.

Other capabilities are integration with document management systems such as EMC Documentum, Interwoven and Open Text Hummingbird, and it now uses Metastorm’s ProVision simulation engine as a default for running simulations on process models.
