Google Video redesigned thier homepage for US, which comes with the recommedation list of “hot videos”. The new designed Google Video home page lets you browse and play hot videos directly from the home page, making it easier for you to discover popular, interesting videos from across the web. The video is played in the left-side player, if you click. “The hot video list is compiled by looking at a variety of signals including videos that most shared, viewed and blogged about” says Google. Most of the video recommendations at the moment are from Google-owned YouTube.

Under the hot videos, another section lists videos “Featured on AOL,” this is typical of how portal-style sites usually emphasize what their partners have to offer as opposed to what the user may really look for.

The Google Video player page has also been redesigned and it's more flexible: you can hide the right sidebar, minimize the list of related videos and use pagination to read a long list of comments.

Third-party online videos are still played in an frame, but Google Video's bar has been moved at the left of the page to leave more room for the videos.

Google’s frame can be closed with an X to its top right, but that won’t remove the frameset itself, so the video URL (e.g. when shared with friends) will still point to Google; you can click “original context” at the bottom of Google’s frame though to remove their frameset completely

The search page has two new options for displaying results: in a grid and in TV view, that lets you watch videos while also being able to see the list of results. An interesting new option in the advanced search page lets you search only closed captioned videos. Another good thing is that you can now watch videos inline for some new video sites: DailyMotion, Revver, Guba, Crackle, not just for YouTube and Google Video.
