The next time you turn on your Xbox 360, you will likely be prompted to download a new system update, which may lead you to wonder just what exactly it updated. According to Major Nelson, who announced the update earlier today, the answer is nothing -- nothing tangible, at least. But the real point of interest here is what the update is doing behind the scenes: "This update contains code to 'prepare for future growth of the service.'"

Unsurprisingly, Major Nelson gave no indication of just what that "future growth" may be, leaving the door wide open to rampant, completely irresponsible speculation. Speaking of which: could this possibly be the overture of Netflix streaming movies finally being confirmed for Xbox Live? We all know Netflix is interested in the prospect, and with rumblings of surveys being distributed to Netflix members to gauge their interest in such a service, it's easy to see how the partnership could make sense.
