The much awaited WordPress 2.5 (Brecker) has been released. The new version is powered with brilliant new features like customized dashboard (Cleaner, faster, less cluttered), dashboard widgets, multi-file upload with progress bar, EXIF extraction, search posts and pages, tag management, password strength meter, concurrent editing protection, few-click plugin upgrades, friendlier visual post editor, and built-in galleries.
Developer Features: salted passwords, secure cookies, easy taxonomy and URL creation, inline documentation, database optimization, $wpdb—>prepare(), media buttons, and shortcode API.
The upgrade instructions for this version are pretty much the same as any other version. The most important thing to check is your plugins, so if for example everything works except the new uploader, a legacy plugin might be causing a javascript error on the page and breaking it.
In addition to WordPress 2.5 release, WordPress.org website has also been redesigned to better match the aesthetics of the new dashboard and also to spruce up a few areas that needed lovin’. Some parts of the site, like the Codex, might show the old style for a day or two.
