An iPhone user by the name of drunknbass has succeeded in turning Apple Incorporated’s smartphone into a video camcorder. The application he has written allows the device to capture 2MP quality videos at 10 FPS for 10 seconds. He has posted (download requires registration) a 36KB proof of concept application, without any UI, that will record 5 seconds of video and replay it – all data is stored to memory. More importantly, he states that the final application will be able to record somewhere from 15 to 30+ FPS and should have an unlimited file length. Yet again a hacker demonstrates the potential of the iPhone’s hardware; Jobs please don’t delay the SDK past February!
