Microsoft creative ad campaign “taps Indie Cool with Zune arts videos”
Microsoft isn't known for hip marketing, but a surprisingly creative ad campaign that uses animation and indie tunes to promote the Zune is generating a buzz online.
The Zune Arts website features several dozen experimental videos from a variety of visual artists. The shorts are wildly imaginative, ranging from demented, dancing 8-bit figures to a neon-colored midnight romp through a graveyard. The site lets users download the full clips, wallpapers for Zunes and desktops, blueprints for flat-pack toys and other freebies.
"They're creating pieces of art, content with viral potential, instead of just a 30-second commercial," said advertising and design critic Warren Berger. "It's very smart, and a good way to go."
