Rumors have started recently, via a 1UP.com webcast, that Microsoft had canceled a big-name upcoming title for the Xbox 360 and Vista, but no one knew what it was. The front runners were Too Human, Fable 2, Halo Wars, Alan Wake, or Marvel Universe.

A source that Next-Gen.biz says is reliable has told the site that the game in question is Marvel Universe. That game was in development at Cryptic Studios, which also created the City of Heroes MMO. Recently publisher NCsoft acquired the City of Heroes IP from Cryptic, leaving the studio with a lot of cash and time to focus on Marvel Universe. If that game has now been canceled, then Cryptic will just be left with a lot of cash from the IP sale and time to do a new game on their own.
