Microsoft has been quick to point out a "small problem" discovered with the PC version of Gears of War - out this week - but happily has provided details on how to resolve the issue.

It's all to do with the very first time you play Gears of War, when an automatic update for Games for Windows - Live is downloaded. Rather than the game being shut down to complete the update as should occur, instead after the update is downloaded you're dropped back into the game's main menu.

"There's two ways to get over this bump", Microsoft has explained.

"The easiest is to simply shut down the game after the update is downloaded (you'll know it's safe because you'll be back at the main menu, and not on the "Don't shut down your PC while the update is being downloaded" screen). As soon as you close the game, the update will install automatically and you're good to go.
