AMD said Tuesday that it has released and is shipping a limited-edition version of its Radeon HD 2900 graphics card, the HD 2900 Pro.

The card contains 320 stream processors, and ships in either 512-Mbyte or 1-Gbyte configurations. The card is available on a limited basis because of supply constraints, AMD said.

Pricing was not announced, and AMD representatives did not respond to requests for comment by press time. The price of the current Radeon HD 2900 XT card (512 Mbyte) is about $390.

The core clock and memory speeds of the card were not disclosed, although manufacturer Web sites have indicated that the card's GPU will run at 600-MHz with a DDR2-800 interface.

The card will be available in three variants.The ATI Radeon HD 2900 PRO 512MB includes a 9-inch fansink, two DVI-I to VGA Adapters, a component HDTV adapter, an ATI DVI to HDMI adapter, a 9-pin VIVO adapter, and the CrossFire bridge interconnect. The 1-Gbyte card includes the same features, but includes either a 9-inch or 12-inch fansink.

AMD said the system-design constraints would be the same as the company's existing 2900 cards. However, updated AMD-certified power supplies for single and CrossFire configurations will be posted to the CrossFire web site.
