Enter Social Media for FireFox, a new browser extension that helps you easily find quality stories to submit. It saves you time by showing in your browser window if a story has already been submitted to Digg, Delicious, Reddit, and StumbleUpon. So as you're out there looking for content you won't be wasting valuable time trying to submit stories that have already been submitted. You will only be submitting fresh content.

Here’s how to use it:

  1. First, you need to have the Firefox web browser installed on your computer. If you don’t have, click the link below to download. After you install it, come back to this page using it as your browser and install the extension.

  2. Download the Social Media Extension
  3. After it is installed close all Firefox browsers, then open a brand new browser window and you should see the this in the bottom of your browser in the Firefox Status bar area.
  4. To make sure it works, go to any web page and hit the manual button, it should then load how many votes that page has had across all the featured social sites, which currently includes:Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon and del.icio.us.

How it Works: The tool has two settings, Manual and Automatic. Manual is set to only pull the page info after you click the manual button. Make sure you use this on the individual page urls of the actual story to get the correct info. For example if you were going to submit a blog post make sure you are checking the actual blog post url and not the /blog url. When you hit manual it will show you which social news sites the story has been submitted to and if they have been submitted it will show you how many votes they have received. The purpose is to quickly see which sites the story hasn't been submitted to so that you can be the first to submit it. If any of the Icons say that it hasn't been submitted then click that Icon and it will open up a new window and take you to the submission page. Fill in the info hit submit and you are done.

Automatic: Automatic is a setting that will automatically check every url you go to without you having to hit the manual button. It is recommended that you use the manual button when browsing individual pages. You should set it to automatic when browsing social sites, as in Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit and Del.icio.us.

HERE IS WHAT MAKES THIS TOOL SO KILLER!: When browsing any of the mentioned social news sites, currently Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon and Del.ici.us you will see icons appear next to each story Title with the submission information. If you are scanning Digg it will actually check the story url for you without you having to click through to the actual story. This is what will help you sky rocket your account. You can see every stories details without visiting the story. If you are working on your Reddit account, scan any of the other sites for soon to be popular stories and submit any stories that have not yet been submitted to Reddit if you feel they would do well there. Remember every story is not meant to be popular on all sites, each site has its own set of bias. If you want to submit stories to Digg scan Reddit or Del.icio.us or StumbleUpon and find popular stories that are not yet in Digg's database. StumbleUpon is getting a lot of attention right now, have you noticed that almost all stories popular on Digg are submitted to Stumble usually by the time they make it popular. Those stories will get a lot of "Thumb Ups" and if that is your account that submitted it that will help you gain more traction.
