If you think that in terms of marketing campaigns for its operating system, Microsoft managed to deliver only a modest performance with the Wow for Windows Vista, then surely you haven't seen how low the company has sunk with the rap commercial for MS-DOS 5. No really, and you don't even have to take my work for it. Just watch the video fragment embedded at the bottom of this article. However, you should be aware that the
content  is in a state of instable equilibrium, on the very blurred line between frightening and laughable...
Oops, did I say laughable? I meant to say funny. And just go here if you want to access the Wow TV commercial, in order to draw a comparison.

One interesting point of view about the transition from MS-DOS 5 to Windows Vista is the actual volume of information that is now going into describing the operating system to the consumer. With MS-DOS 5, Microsoft managed to offer an approximately 5-minute lame rap designed to brainwash even the most tone-deaf members of the audience into buying the fifth version of the Microsoft Disk Operating System. And while the rap has the potential to virtually turn your brain into a tabula rasa in terms of music culture, you have to keep in mind that MS-DOS 5.0 was launched in June 1991.

If Microsoft had pulled such a trick with Windows Vista, the company would not be quite at a distance from the 60 million copies it claims to have shipped in the operating system's first six months on the market. The evolution to Vista also meant coming up with a one minute long video ad where everybody says Wow. And this was in just 16 years. At this pace, by the time Windows 7 (Seven) Vista's successor will be out in 2010, marketing campaigns will all be reduced to the most basic of onomatopoeias. Still, I'd rather watch mute video commercials than listen to the Vanilla Ice interpretation of the MS-DOS 5.
