Although Dell offered Santa Rosa for its Business notebooks a while back, the mainstream notebooks had to wait a bit longer.

Thanks to what-seems-accidental leaks from Dell website, we have news on the updates on the Dell family of notebook PCs for consumers. To begin with, most of the updates, infact 4 of them, happen to be inclusion of Santa Rosa mobile platform on updated notebook series.

To begin the updates, Dell plans to introduce a new lineup of notebooks called the Vostro. The Vostro range will come in two form factors, the 15-inch 1500 and the 17-inch Vostro 1700. They will weight around 3Kg and 3.6Kg respectively. The Vostro range will be powered by Intel's Santa Rosa mobile platform. No AMD here!

Next up, we have the updated Inspiron 1520 and Inspiron 1720. These will incorporate Santa Rosa too like the new Vostros. All the 4 notebooks mentioned above will come default with 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo processors featuring 4MB of L2 Cache and 800MHz FSB speed. Stock configs are expected to feature 80GB of tradtional HDD storage with option for 120GB model.

The AMD notebook offerings get the much needed rejuvenation potion. Earlier Inspiron 1501 range which offered AMD processors and ATI chipset, came only in the 15.4-inch widescreen format. The new AMD notebooks will also offer the option for 17-inch screens. Thus, laying the way for the Inspiron 1721 along with the Inspiron 1521. These AMD notebooks are reported to be more afforadable, thanks to some price cuts. They will be powered by the duo of new Turion 64 X2s and AMD's X1270 chipset.

We already know about the amazing new look and specs of the XPS portable powerhouse notebook - the Dell XPS M1330! With the new updated XPS, Dell will enter the 13.3-inch notebook market. The same XPS will also feature LED backlighting, Santa Rosa hardware, up to 4GB DDR2 RAM, optional 32GB SSD, Slot-loading DVD burner, DirectX 10 compatible GeForce 8400M with 128MB graphics memory and a slew of other connectivity options in less than 4 pounds of entire weight.

That's it folks. Huge updates. All these notebooks are claimed to have a June 26 launch date. The Vostro 1700 however, will arrive a few weeks late in second week of July.
