Ubisoft this morning revelaed that a new version of Brothers in Arms is on the way for the DS and Wii consoles. The tactical shooter is already a favourite on other platforms, and Ubi are promising new titles which take advantage of the unique controllers of both Nintendo gizmos.

Brothers In Arms Double Time is the Wii offering, and is due out in the autumn, sporting 31 levels of WWII grittiness, taken from Gearbox's first two main Brothers releases. Once again players will be assuming the roles of Matt Baker and Joe Hartsock, and you'll even be able to issue commands using Wiimote gestures.

On the handheld, we'll be getting our teeth into Brothers in Arms DS, which will be due out in the summer featuring stylus-based controls. A 3D title is the order of the day, though the gameplay will be somewhat simplified as your co-troops carry out covering, health-recovering moves automatically.

16 missions spread across various WWII theatres of conflict are promised, with various vehicles also included, not to mention weapons like bazookas and grenades.

"I am a huge fan of both systems and thrilled about making games for the two platforms," enthused Gearbox president Randy Pitchford. "In the entire space of first-person shooters on videogame systems, Brothers In Arms really lends itself to both the Wii and DS interfaces. Imagine using the Wii remote to give actual hand signals or aiming with the DS stylus from a covered position. That’s what you can look forward to with Brothers In Arms Double Time and Brothers In Arms DS," he added.
