Newly announced Harmonix music title Rock Band - being developed alongside MTV and EA - will make use of Guitar Hero's unique guitar controllers, the developer confirm today.

Previous reports had suggested that peripherals created for Harmonix's last series would not work with their new opus, something the developer have been quick to deny. "For some reason, IGN posted that Rock Band will not be compatible with Guitar Hero guitars," Jason Booth commented on the official forum. "I thought I'd drop in and let you know that this is not correct."

Booth was quick to affirm that while Rock Band will make use of music peripherals from the GH series, that Harmonix and EA are also plotting some new offerings of this variety to tie-in with the game's release.

The new title will hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 this Christmas.
