Having made available some one-million PlayStation 3 consoles last Friday, Sony have today revealed that 600,000 of these systems have already been sold. The figure was confirmed by Sony to the BBC yesterday, and we'd already heard that the PS3 was the fastest selling home system in UK history, having sold 165,000 units in the two days following launch.

By comparison, the Wii shifted 105,000 and the Xbox 360 70,000 over their opening weekends, though both consoles were stifled by depleted stock availability. By contrast, Sony's PAL region delay has allowed them to build up much stronger supplies of the console, meaning that stores do actually have units available.

The Wii, meanwhile, remains hard to get hold of in stores across Europe, the US and Japan, with one GameStop exec stating that he believes Nintendo are holding back stocks as their quarterly targets have already been met and they're now considering their next financially-linked milestone.
