The U.S. District Court sentenced Don Perreira, 27, to four months in prison following his guilty plea to two counts of copyright infringement. Perreira will also serve 4 months of house arrest and 3 years of supervised release after doing his time. He was basically modding Xbox units and loading them with games for profit. Personally, I realize he broke the law, but I have to feel bad for the guy. In a society full of murder, rape, strong arm robbery and an endless list of other terrible things, I have to wonder if there are bigger fish out there to fry. In the big scheme of things, I find it hard to believe modders are really hurting these big companies. It’s kind of like downloading songs from Limewire. Companies need to take the approach Microsoft’s software people have recently and just figure out ways to trick thieves into buying stuff.
