A new, appealing, open source cross-site social networking service called Explode has been launched and looks like a very appealing alternative to the now Yahoo! owned MyBlogLog. The site has been built by Curverider, an UK open-source social network provider, whose primary product, Elgg, is similar to PeopleAggregator.

Explode lets you have a widget which contains your friends on any network or site. This is a great way to share your network with others regardless of where your friends have their site.

You can also comment and view comments made by anyone across any network. The widget will update to show which of your friends have most recently been online.

If you are looking for people who share the same interests as you but aren't necessarily on the same social networking site - this is now possible. Use the tag cloud or enter a tag into the search box. Connect away!

How do you do this?

1. Use the tag cloud or search box to find other people who have the same interests as you.
2. If someone shares that interest, you will find them. They can be on any network, or might just have their own blog and not be part of any network. Explode! will bring you to them no matter where they make their home.
3. Make them a friend and they will be included in your widget - an instant global network, on your own site.
