With only a couple of weeks remaining before Microsoft's commercial launch of Windows Vista, officials are saying that yes, they've finally licked any and all security vulnerabilities that have plagued previous versions of Microsoft's operating system. News.com security reporter Joris Evers examines the strides Microsoft has--and has not--made on this ever-contentious question.

Apple reports gangbuster earnings and the stock tanks, pulling down the Nasdaq with it. Go figure. There's a reported deal in the Hewlett-Packard spying scandal. California's attorney general has presented a deal to former Chairwoman Patricia Dunn and four other people charged in the case.
