Microsoft Delays Windows XP Service Pack 3 to 2008
Windows Service Pack Road Map was last updated on 17th Oct. 2006, with a major blow for all those, who were looking for the release of next Windows XP Service Pack 3, the SP3 is now planned for first half of calander year 2008. 
Here is what appeared on the site:

No further updates planned. Customers must be running SP4 to continue to receive monthly security updates.
Microsoft recommends updating SP4 machines to Update Rollup #1 (KB891861). |
