An air bag “is a flexible membrane or envelope, inflatable to contain air or some other gas” and have been around since 1972. In 1974, dual airbags were an option on several full-sized cars made by the Buick, Cadillac and Oldsmobile divisions. These devices did not meet with market acceptance.
